I have been part of the world-wide Scout Movement since I was seven. I have been a Wolf Cub, Scout, Venturer, Rover, and Scouter. I have earned the Chief Scout's Award (1990), the Queen's Venturer Award (1994), the Woodbadge in Troop (1995), and the Long Service Medal (2002). You can read my personal Scouting history.
I am the Scoutmaster of the 21st Waterloo Scout Troop, which is located in Scouts Canada, Central Escarpment Council, North Waterloo Area. The troop is a member of the NW Scouters' Club.
I maintain several Scouting-related web sites:
I play the guitar to accompany my singing which is mostly of Canadian folk music. I sing the songs of Stan Rogers, Tamarack, James Gordon, James Keelaghan, and others.
For several terms, I was a member of the Conrad Grebel Chapel Choir. In 2000, we released Touched by Grace, the choir's third CD. I sang on and designed the cover for this CD. I have also occasionally sung with the DaCapo Chamber Choir, as a "Guest E", taking advantage of my low voice. I am one of the voices singing the pedal note in "Svyati" on their their CD Still.
I hold an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, and Peace & Conflict Studies from the University of Waterloo. My thesis was on Membership Retention in Scout Troops. I was a resident and associate of Conrad Grebel College.
I am an Ontario Scholar and Alumnus of Lisgar Collegiate Institute in Ottawa.
